Radiohead "All I Need"

Here's a fan video for Radiohead's "All I Need," composed entirely of footage from the 1996 French film, Microcosmos. The video was made by J. Tyler Helms, the same guy who made a fan of Springsteen with his impressive and oddly fitting video for the Arcade Fire's "My Body is a Cage," created with footage taken from Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West.

Anybody else sick of this guy?

When will this guy finally get traded to Chicago? I can't wait for the Suns to crush the Lakers tonight! Isn't it sad when your grown ass owner(74 years old) gets suspended for a DUI?

Muse

I had a chance to go see Muse a few days ago, and they did not disappoint. One of the best live acts I have ever seen. Right up there with the Mars Volta, the Shins, Pearl Jam in 1994 and Paul McCartney. In other concert news all you Phoenix peeps who missed the Shins a few months ago, well your second chance is October 9th and they are playing at the best venue in Phoenix, the Celebrity Theatre!!!

The Darjeeling Limited trailer

Here's the trailer for Wes Anderson's new film, The Darjeeling Limited, due out September 29. The film stars Anderson regulars Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman, and Angelica Houston (and maybe Natalie Portman???), and the trailer happens to feature one of my favorite Kinks songs ever. Looks like Anderson is sticking to his signature stylistic devices on this one, which is fine by me:

Hawaii was BA (badass)! This picture was taken on top of Diamondhead Crater. The city in the background is Honolulu and the shoreline is Waikiki Beach. My trip was too short like this song below (The Roots w/ Q-tip "Stay Cool Remix). More pictures soon...

Colours

One of the best American psyche albums heard from the late 60s -- a near-perfect record that's head and shoulders above the rough experimentation of most other groups from the period! Colours spell their name with a definite British twist, and there's clearly a Beatles influence going on here -- a sound that's almost pre-Sgt Peppers, but which has wonderfully complicated time changes, vocal parts, and production techniques that must have cost a pretty penny to such a little-known group! Horns and strings are arranged by Dave Roberts, and handled with a sensitivity that almost matches The Zombies' best at times -- and the tunes themselves are a fresh variety of odd themes, including one number about robbing a liquor store. Titles include "Brother Lou's Love Colony", "Bad Day At Black Rock Baby", "Love Heals", "Rather Be Me", "I'm Leaving", "Cataleptic", "Don't You Realize", and "Lovin".

Digable Planets "Dedication" Jazzanova Mix

History

Digable Planets' fusion of jazz and hip hop received excellent reviews and solid sales with the release of its debut album, Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space), in 1993, which was certified gold by the RIAA. The album's lead single, "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)," became a crossover hit, peaking at #15 on Billboard magazine's singles chart, earning gold certification by the RIAA, and winning the Grammy award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.

Its second album, Blowout Comb, was released in 1994 (see 1994 in music). The novelty of the group's jazz/hip-hop fusion had passed, leading to disappointing sales. The trio soon broke up due to creative differences, as well as the deaths of both of Ladybug's parents due to unrelated illnesses. However, a retrospective album Beyond the Spectrum: The Creamy Spy Chronicle was released in 2005, which included unreleased recordings

New Smashing Pumpkins

I gotta be honest and say I was not expecting much from the newly reformed, Smashing Pumpkins. I have changed my mind after hearing the song posted below, it really surprised me and it is good, real good. Classic Pumpkins sound. What year is this 1994? First the Beastie Boys come out of nowhere and now the Smashing Pumpkins. Album out July 10th.

Devin The Dude & Snoop Dogg & Andre 3000

This song will definitely be going on my Summer 2007 Mix. This is some great stuff that isn't Crunk and reminds me of early South before it was Dirty South rap. One of the best Snoop verses in a minute and a solid return from Andre 3000. Nice work Devin the Dude!

The Beatles "Long, Long, Long"

Lately, I have been listening to great classic bands, but maybe lost or forgotten tracks. Here is a great example from The White Album, and a song by George Harrison. Another reason I love this song is Elliott Smith (see post below) often covered this song in his live set.

Silversun Pickups

I'm going to see these guys this Friday, here in Phoenix. They are from the Silverlake area of L.A and have an early Gish-era Smashing Pumpkins sound. I recommend the whole album and wouldn't be surprised if they start getting some national attention, real soon.

Elliott Smith

One of my favorite musicians of all-time. Get all of his albums!
Arguably the most gifted songwriter of his generation, Smith produced a large body of work that includes five solo albums and a collection of songs completed before his death in 2003. This double CD contains twenty-four songs recorded between 1994 and 1997, a prolific time in Elliott's career, when he recorded his self-titled album and Either/Or. Like his other work, New Moon reflects the power of Smith's ability to integrate rich, melodic music with poetic, multi-layered lyrics.

Dungen "Tio Bitar"

Over the past two years, the profile of Swedish psychedelic rockers Dungen has grown at an alarming rate, from a cult studio project into a worldwide musical phenomenon. And on Tio Bitar, we're hearing the end results of an outpouring of success and support - one which has, for once, inspired the creative processes at hand to make something wholly new and original, yet remaining within the same sphere of emotions that fostered Dungen's three previous albums. Gustav Ejstes, Dungen's founder and principal member, made Tio Bitar (translated, "Ten Pieces") - a bracing display of psychedelic rock, presented with a bright, avid confidence - largely by himself, with the assistance of guitarist Reine Fiske. Gustav wrote the songs, and played all of the instruments on his own, with Reine on many lead guitar and bass parts; his style of play puts him well within the top ranks of modern guitar heroes past and present.

The Bees "Ocotopus"

Really looking forward to this one, here is a little sample from the album.

After the success of the Abbey Road recorded "Free The Bees", our favourite furry Isle Of Wighters retreated to their seaside hive to record the bands third album, "Octopus". With Paul Butler taking the music reigns and Aaron Fletcher resuming lyrical control, the band have recorded 10 stunning tracks that combine all the best disparate elements of their first two albums (garage, psychedelic, folk, reggae, soundtracks etc) and wraps them in a warm blanket of straight up seaside soul. Some of these tunes are so good you'll be forgiven for thinking they're long lost classics, and checking to see who the original was by. Well it's 100% crazy Bees music: trippy, good-time, groovy, soulful, magic.

The Cougars "I Wish It Would Rain"

Another excellent reggae cover!
Taking musical cues from The Band and Count Ossie, this previously unreleased 45 version of The Temptations “I Wish It Would Rain” is the personification of the Jamaica To Toronto sound, combining the Yonge Street strip’s gutbucket R&B with the Nyabinghi-feel of the Rastafarians. Less than a half-dozen originals were ever pressed of this two-sider monster. Rare doesn’t even begin to describe...

Air Jordan III Retro

So I went to Foot Locker yesterday to score these shoes. There was all kinds of madness at the mall. Peeps really wanted these shoes. So long story short, I did score a pair of these bad boys in my size. The dude working at Foot Locker told me that they got in 36 pairs and I got the 34th pair (close call). Did you know that Jordan's are only released on Saturday, so kids don't ditch school to get some new kicks?
